    FAMILY COUNSELING

How the IMS work

1. Reception phase Within 7 days from the first contact with the user, a first reception appointment is set up in order to listen and evaluate the request. This service does not envisage waiting lists.

2. Multidisciplinary evaluation phase Within 15 days following the first interview, a multidisciplinary assessment of the subject is guaranteed in order to diagnose the problem and to define a therapeutic path for the user.
This evaluation includes: counselling with the doctor: it consists of a medical examination, anamnesis, evaluation of previous clinical documentation (instrumental and laboratory tests) in order to establish the overall health conditions of the user and identify any pathology that may influence the future therapeutic path. Then the doctor, with the help of the diagnostic manual, proceeds to evaluate the user's condition regarding drug / narcotic or alcohol consumption, abuse, dependence;

Counselling with the psychologist: it is aimed at collecting the psychological anamnesis and at formulating an overview of the user's psychological and relational functioning. During this interview the psychologist obtains useful information for judging the person through psycho-diagnostic tools; counselling with the professional educator: it is aimed at collecting information on the social situation of the user and, in particular, on their socio-educational situation in the family, work, relational, social context as well as legal situation. Additional diagnostic tools: test / questionnaire administration: useful tools to outline the condition of the user regarding different reference areas; toxicological exams: crucial to highlight drugs consumption, these exams either analyse a urine sample, a keratin matrix, or are run on both the sample and the matrix; haematochemical tests: this analysis allows to assess the user's modality of alcohol consumption.

3. Acceptance phase In this phase the team recommends a therapeutic program. This can be carried out entirely at the clinic and can be divided into: medical examinations; laboratory analysis, aimed at also finding related pathologies; HIV test (this test can also be requested by non-alcohol/drug addicted people); pharmacological treatments; psychological support interviews or individual / family psychotherapy; social care; educational advice or support. In some cases, the program may include external phases or moments: rehabilitation programs at therapeutic communities; work reintegration programs; social reintegration activities, also in collaboration with volunteering and social networks; consultations or team-work with other services (family counselling service, psychiatry, hospital wards, etc.).

4. Discharge The discharge is scheduled upon mutual agreement among the interested party and any other interlocutor involved (family members or the activated services network). The patient receives a discharge letter written by the professionals involved in the therapeutic treatment.

THERAPEUTIC AND SOCIO-REHABILITATIVE PROGRAM REPORTS TO THE PREFECTURE FOR ART. 75 D.P.R. 309/90

The legislator grants to the person the opportunity to participate in a therapeutic and socio-rehabilitative program. The program aims at offering them a possible connection to the competent services serving a twofold purpose: to increase awareness about the problem in the occasional users and to help habitual users to undertake a path of therapy. On this basis, the SMI proposes a program of the total duration of two months that envisages:

- weekly checks through laboratory tests aimed at investigating the use of the reported psychoactive substance; group and / or individual formative / informative meetings concerning health, social and psychological risks deriving from the use of psychoactive substances and knowledge of the legislation on drugs;

- periodic health examinations, when necessary;

- if, at the end of the evaluation, evidence should emerge of a problematic use of psychoactive substances, the user will be offered a therapeutic path aimed at treating the abuse of or dependence on illegal psychoactive drugs.

The educational therapeutic program envisaged for the people reported by the Prefecture (Art.75) is free of charge.

THERAPEUTIC AND SOCIO-REHABILITATIVE PROGRAM ART. 186 and / or 187

The assessment path is of an outpatient type and it lasts from two to three months. During this journey, the user must undergo three medical examinations and two psychological interviews in order to receive the health certification / report. Free Family Counselling

For family members of people affected by abuse problems of psychoactive substances treated at our clinics, it is possible to have access to psychological, medical and social counselling aimed at supporting the family and helping it to improve its emergency management skills. Also family members of people not treated at our facilities have the opportunity to access these therapeutic programs. Family counselling is a free of charge service.

Behavioural addiction

A vast number of behaviours can trigger an addiction. These are behaviours that are part of normal personal experiences, the use of a smartphone or computer, sports, food, shopping, sex or work... But with time they can become the only thought that drives a person's life and they overshadow everything else.
Just like other addictions they don't have a specific age, profession, gender and they impact each person differently. In certain cases they evolve in a psychologically and relationally damaging way, requiring professional help. That's the reason why we offer personalized options through our services, which start from an initial evaluation and evolve towards an adequate path to follow.
